Write the Vision, Make it Plain for SAHM/WAHM and #Mompreneurs

(Written December 17, 2018)

Habakkuk 2: 2-3 And the LORD answered me: “Write the vision; make it plain on tablets, so he may run who reads it. 3For still the vision awaits its appointed time; it hastens to the end—it will not lie. If it seems slow, wait for it; it will surely come; it will not delay.

Even though I feel called to be a SAHM/WAHM/Mompreneur, and I am very passionate about it, I feel like I have been going around the same mountain for the past eight years and have failed to truly reach the promised land. The promised land for me, is to sustain my business and grow it while continuing to manage my home to the standards I feel are acceptable. In today’s vlog, I share with you how I intend to wrap up 2017 by sitting down and writing out my vision for 2018. I begin the video by sharing a little about myself and my familes’ ages and stages, then I talk about why I think writing down my vision for 2018 will lead to success and lastly I share what I have actually written thus far. I close the video by inviting you to join me by writing your own vision for 2018.

For the purpose of this vlog/blog, I am defining “vision” as “what I need to accomplish in the year of 2018 for the year to be a success in my book”.

First, a little about me…

I am a Stay at home Mom #SAHM, a Work at home Mom #WAHM, a #Mompreneur (a woman who works from home, and earns an income on her own terms), a #militaryspouse and a virgo! I have two sons, two and eight years old, my husband is in the United States Marine Corps and I have been married to him 11 years, which will be 12 years in February. I have been working on being a successful mompreneur and WAHM for the last eight years and have experienced varying levels of success during that time. As a military spouse,  I have moved every two to three years back and forth across the country, lived through deployments, trainings and special assignments which have taken my husband away for periods of time. I have dealt with isolation and learned how to create a support system and leave it behind every time we had to move and start our lives over in another location away from family and friends. In retrospect I know I haven't always rebounded from all the changes the #militarylifestyle can throw at you.  I lacked the mental fortitude to really bounce back after each move and for that, I now find myself at the starting line again. Starting again to build a business from home, but this time with the hopes of having staying power.

I believe writing down my #vision and making it plain is the key to setting myself up for success in 2018 for three reasons. First, I believe it is what God is telling me to do. Secondly, I believe it is going to significantly reduce the amount of stress and anxiety I feel on a daily basis and lastly, it will give me a road map to follow.

Over the last eight years, I have come to this very same spot, many times,  where I felt  that the next step was to stop and write out my plans. Yet, I failed to do so. I was intimidated by the idea of committing to writing all the dreams and ideas I had so vividly in my mind. Was I afraid that writing them would reveal how impossible they were? Was I afraid that I didn’t actually have a plan? Or was I just angry over all the tasks and the seemingly lacking support? I don’t know. All I know is, I didn't do it.  Strange, considering how much I wholeheartedly believed it was  God telling me to do it. So here, now, the reason I am so excited about writing the vision and making it plain and the main reason I believe writing it will lead to my success in 2018 is because I know this prompt is from the Lord and I am eager to be obedient after so many years of disobedience.

I also believe writing the vision will significantly reduce the amount of stress and anxiety I feel on a daily basis. As a mompreneur/SAHM/WAHM my to- do list, like yours, is never ending. And a symptom or side effect of my #anxiety issue, is that I have racing thoughts. These racing thoughts, now that I am embarking on the mompreneur journey again, are a non stop loop of all the things I need to do, want to do, didn’t do, should do, can’t do and hope to do. All day long my mind is engaged in worrying about all the many things that need to be done in order to be a success with my business. Beginning to write the vision, however, has already lightened the load I was carrying in my mind. Just knowing that I am actually making a plan to schedule all tasks, just knowing that I am taking action instead of hoping and wishing and praying, immediately calmed me. Now that I have begun, instead of worrying I can say to myself, “I have a plan and God is going to bless it”. I can actually focus on the task in front of me, comforted with the knowledge that all the other tasks are budgeted for as well. I can breathe and not mentally try to be in two or three different places at that same time.

Lastly, I believe that writing my vision and making it plain is going to lead me to success in 2018 because the vision will be my road map. As the Chief Executive Officer of my life, just by sitting down and making a plan aimed at achieving a goal, I am destined to succeed. Even if I don’t do exactly what I intend, down to the letter, I will still have a guide to keep me moving in the right direction and keep me focused on the mission. Writing down the vision will reduce the time I need to spend thinking of what to do. As  one woman show, taking time to think through everything and then actually doing the work is exhausting. Mapping it out before hand frees me up to do just what the scripture says,  which is read it and run with it.

What are my goals for 2018? What do I need to accomplish to feel like the year was indeed a success? All I want to do in 2018 is get systems in place that will serve as a foundation on which I build my business. Since I am more interested in what I can do in five years than just one, I can take this full year to lay a steady and firm foundation. I can create habits for success. I can teach my family how they ought to behave in order to support me in this endeavor. I am taking 2018 to master schedules and learn how to manage the different departments in the business of my life. The departments being my mothering duties, household management, self care, wife responsibilities and then my business. And not just manage them but manage them with the least amount of undue stress possible. My goal is to make it through the year without flipping  out on my family, without getting overwhelmed and without quitting. The goal is to grow my business steadily in 2018 and adhere to the vision as I have received it.

To get started with writing the vision I have listed all the individual items that need to be budgeted for and scheduled into my days, weeks and year. These things included my household duties such as cleaning, shopping and preparing meals. My parenting duties like spending quality time with my children and educating them. All the way down to writing blogs and making the products I sell in my Etsy shop, peacelovesunshineco.etsy.com

The next step, will be to take the items from my to-do list and separate them into daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly tasks. Breaking down my days into sections and allocating time to accomplish the things that are necessary. In the beginning it might be myself doing all the tasks, but I believe that if I am faithful with my schedule and managing my business it won’t be long before the Lord increases me and I am able to delegate tasks.

Want to join me in mapping out 2018 and setting ourselves up for success? Just take some time and think about what it is that you are called to accomplish in 2018. Then write out all the tasks that need to be accomplish on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis within the many departments of the business of your life. And that's it!  Just write the tasks out, we will move them into their designated time slots later.

So, what are you goals for 2018? What are you called to accomplish? Are you joining me in mapping it out on the front end? What are you doing to set yourself up for success in this coming new year? Please share! Thank you!
